OUR HISTORY

The potter's House Christian Fellowship is a Pentecostal Christian church movement founded by Pastor Wayman Mitchell in Prescott, Arizona, in 1970. The offical name of the organisation is Christian Fellowship Ministries.

Today, The Potter's House is a bible-based fellowship consisting of more than 4,400 churches in over 140 nations around the world.

The name "The Potter's House" is taken from the Old Testament scripture: Jeremiah 18:2 "Arise and go down to the potter's House and there I will cause thee to hear my words"

In 1970, Wayman Mitchell and Nelda Mitchell move to Prescott to pastor a small and struggling congregation. Soon after their arrival, a number of young people from hippie movement came to christ. Although they were very different from the existing church members, they were welcomed into the congregation. As a result, God began to move powerfully through the church.

Seeking effective ways to reach young people, Pastor Mitchell embraced the idea of a coffee house-style concert ministry. At the first evangelistic concert, more than 200 young people attended, and many gave their lives to christ. This led to the establishment of a regular concert ministry where bands performed, personal testimonies were shared, and the Gospel was preached. Many people were saved through these meetings.

From the beginning, Pastor Mitchell viewed the concert ministry as a training ground for developing future leaders and ministries. It was led by young people who were committed to Jesus Christ and actively involved in their local church.

As lives were transformed,  new converts came passionate about sharing their faith with others. Personal evangelism quickly became one of the foundational principles of the church. The ministry then expanded through the development of impact teams- through groups of believers who travelled to nearby cities to assist local churches and share what God was doing in Prescott. Through this process, God revealed a vision for discipleship : Training men and women within the local church and preparing them for ministry.

In 1973, the first couple was sent out directly into the ministry, and God greatly blessed their work. Churches began to be planted throughout the southwestern United States and eventually across the nation as coverts desired to see the Gospel preached in their hometowns,

In 1978, the first international church planting took place in Australia. The success of his work demonstrated that the Gospel was just as powerful overseas as it was in the united states. Soon after, churches were established in Mexico, Holland, and Germany. As the fellowship continued to embrace God's vision for world evangelism, churches were planted throughout the nations of the world.

Today, Christian Fellowship Ministries continues its commitment to evangelism, discipleship, and church planting, impacting lives and communities across the globe.
